New Pakistan PM candidate faces arrest warrant

ISLAMABAD (AP) ? A Pakistani judge issued an arrest warrant Thursday for the ruling party's candidate for prime minister over allegations he illegally imported drugs, injecting fresh uncertainty into efforts to replace the previous premier who was ousted by the Supreme Court.

The warrant was announced after the Pakistan People's Party nominated Makhdoom Shahabuddin, raising suspicion it was politically motivated and aimed at blocking the president's choice to replace Yousuf Raza Gilani. The anti-narcotic force is run by the army, another power center in Pakistan's chaotic polity and one that has at times allied with the judiciary to target elected governments.

Gilani was dismissed Tuesday because he refused to initiate a corruption case against President Asif Ali Zardari, the head of the PPP.

The order, which left the country without a Cabinet, was an escalation of a bruising power struggle between the government and activist judges, who critics say are unfairly prioritizing cases against the government. The arrest warrant is sign that tensions may continue, distracting the country even as its relations with the United States are facing major strains.

Shahabuddin, the outgoing textile minister and a veteran PPP lawmaker, was Zardari's first choice for the prime minister. The 65-year-old appeared defiant as he filed nomination papers ahead of a scheduled vote in the parliament on Friday. But by Thursday evening, two other People's Party stalwarts were being mentioned as likely replacement candidates.

The PPP has a majority in parliament, and together with its coalition partners should have the numbers to get their choice elected. General elections are scheduled for March next year, but most assume the political upheaval will ensure they will be brought forward to the fall.

The arrest warrant was issued by an anti-narcotics court judge in the northern city of Rawalpindi, according to an officer at the anti-narcotics force and a law ministry official.

Shahabuddin was accused over his role in a scandal over the import of a drug that can be used to make methamphetamine, said the officials, who didn't give their names because they were not authorized to speak to the media. He was health minister at the time.

Gilani's son also has also been linked to the case, which revolves around two Pakistani pharmaceutical companies that allegedly used political connections to obtain huge amounts of ephedrine in 2010. They are suspected of diverting it to people in the drug trade who could have used it to make methamphetamines worth billions of dollars.

Gilani's son, who was also issued with an arrest warrant Thursday, and Shahabuddin have denied any wrongdoing.

Shahabuddin was asked about the arrest warrant after filing his nomination at the parliament. He replied with a line from a poem about not being afraid of "hostile winds" and thanked the PPP and its coalition partners for choosing him.

The PPP said two other candidates ? lawmaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and outgoing information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira ? also had filed papers in the event that Shahabuddin withdraws. Conflicting media reports said each candidate was gathering support within the party and its coalition partners.

The next prime minister will likely quickly face the same order from the Supreme Court to investigate Zardari as Gilani did, meaning tensions will continue to roil the fragile political setup. The Gilani government was widely criticized for exacerbating ? or doing nothing ? to address the massive economic and security challenges in the country. No one expects any changes under a new premier.

Shahabuddin comes from a wealthy, landowning family based in the central Pakistani district of Rahim Yar Khan.

His father had served as minister in the cabinets of two Pakistani governments. He also served as minister for finance and health in the current government.

Relations between Washington and Islamabad are strained over a host of issues, including blocked war supply lines to Afghanistan and Pakistan's links to the Afghan Taliban. The Obama administration has tried to work with Pakistan to get it more aligned to its goals, but has had little success. The country's northwest remains a haven for al-Qaida and associated international militant groups, while the country's ties to the Afghan Taliban mean it will have role in bringing them to the negotiating table, or preventing civil war when the U.S. withdraws its combat troops in 2014.

In violence Thursday, a bomb attached to a donkey-drawn cart exploded at a Sunni shrine in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing two children, police officer Zafar Khan said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. Taliban militants have often targeted such shrines in the past because they consider them a form of idol worship that is forbidden in their strict interpretation of Islam.

K. Michelle Accuses Memphitz of Domestic Abuse on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta

The premiere of VH1's Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta this week contained a pretty surprising accusation on the part of one cast member, singer K. Michelle.

K. Michelle didn’t actually mention her alleged domestic abuser by name, but dropped enough hints that the Twitterverse was buzzing about who it was.

Memphitz is a music executive at Jive records and is also married to Lil’ Wayne’s ex-wife, Toya. He was also one of the hosts for BET’s show The Deal.

That show also starred Nicki Minaj’s DJ, Diamond Kutz. Anyway, K. Michelle said she was in a violent relationship with the man who signed her at Jive.

Specifically, she said “beat her ass.”

K. Michelle said he “blacked out” on her with physical abuse during their relationship, then blew her entire recording budget on toys and chains for himself.

For her part, Toya, who is currently in Paris with Memphitz celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary, re-tweeted a comment in defense of Memphitz.

She also calls K. Michelle a “hater.”

'Moesha' Star Yvette Wilson Dead After Cancer Battle

Actress and stand up comedian Yvette Wilson, who appeared on the popular 90s TV show "Moesha," alongside Brandy is dead at age 48, after fighting with cervical cancer. Wilson, known as Andell Wilkerson on the show, also appeared on UPN's "The Parkers."

Wilson's good friend, Jeffrey Pittle, confirmed the news that Wilson had passed in a statement on a website he set up to help raise funds for her treatment. "It is with a heavy heart that I can verify that Yvette passed away last evening after a lengthy and hard battle," he wrote. "She was a fighter to the end, and her talent, humor and amazing friendship will be sorely missed. She will live on through her awesome body of work."

Born on March 6, 1964, in Los Angeles, Wilson backed her way into acting by taking a friend's dare to do stand-up comedy and then landing a spot on the short-lived sitcom "Thea." That helped her book bit parts in movies including "House Party 2" and its sequel, "Friday," "Poetic Justice" and "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood."

Those gigs won her the part of Wilkerson on "Moesha," where she counseled her younger charge while keeping an eye on the kids at the Den. She parlayed that into a co-starring role alongside Mo'Nique on "The Parkers." When Wilson's cancer crisis got serious after years of battles with kidney failure and kidney transplants, Pittle started a website to raise money for her treatment. Dubbing it the "Yvette Wilson CANCER SUCKS FUND," the site had raised nearly 30 percent of its $50,000 goal at the time of her death.

A number of her friends and admirers tweeted tributes, including "Moesha" co-star Shar Jackson, who wrote, "F--- Cancer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... oh god ... my heart is soooo unbelievably broken ... I wanna thank all my tweeties for their prayers but god has chosen to take my sister Yvette home."

Also weighing in was Jamie Foxx, who said, "God bless u Yvette Wilson. Tears in my eyes. Keep God laughing" and former Fugees singer Lauryn Hill, who wrote, "R.I.P. Yvette Wilson ... Life is short, so cherish yours." A number of other actors/comedians also praised Wilson and offered condolences, including Cedric the Entertainer, Loni Love, Marlon Wayans and Roots drummer ?uestlove.

Plague confirmed in Oregon man bitten by stray cat

BEND, Ore. (AP) ? Health officials have confirmed that an Oregon man has the plague after he was bitten while trying to take a dead mouse from a stray cat.

The unidentified man, who is in his 50s, remained in critical condition Friday at a Bend hospital. His illness marks the fifth case of plague in Oregon since 1995.

State public health veterinarian Dr. Emilio De Bess says the man was infected when he was bitten by the stray his family had befriended.

The cat's body is being sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing.

More than a dozen people who were in contact with the sick man have been notified and are receiving preventive antibiotics.

Neighbors: Missing NY doctor's personality changed

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) ? Neighbors of missing Buffalo surgeon Timothy Jorden say there was an odd shift in his personality in the months before his ex-girlfriend was found fatally shot at the hospital where they both worked.

They say Jorden was meticulous about his appearance and the landscaping at his home, but lately seemed to care less about them. They say he also was less friendly and had dropped about 75 pounds.

Some thought he was sick. They now wonder if his personality change is connected to the death of Jacqueline Wisniewski.

Police say the 33-year-old administrative assistant was shot to death at Erie County Medical Center on Wednesday.

Police across the country are on the lookout for 49-year-old Jorden. They say the former Army weapons expert may be armed and is considered dangerous.

BP?s Galapagos development in Gulf of Mexico starts production

British Petroleum has announced the beginning of the initial start-up of Galapagos development in the deep water US Gulf of Mexico.

BP group chief executive Bob Dudley said that the project was one of the operational highlights of the company for the year 2012.And that it would be one of the six high-margin projects the company expects to bring into production this year.

"I expect that the operational progress we are now making will deliver increasing financial momentum for BP as we move into 2013 and 2014," added Dudley.

With three deep water fields the Galapagos development increases BP's capability from a key offshore production hub.

Isabela, Santiago and Santa Cruz are the three fields being produced with subsea equipment on the floor of the Gulf.

The output will be carried to nearby Na Kika host facility via the newly added production flowline loop.

BP will invest about $4bn in the Gulf of Mexico over the next ten years towards oil and gas development.

Boy Scouts board member opposes anti-gay policy

A Boy Scouts of America board member said a policy that bans gay scouts and leaders is not one he would ?personally endorse? and he was working within the organization to ?encourage dialogue? on it, the latest comments in a debate?over the group?s membership rules.

James Turley, global chairman and CEO of consulting and tax firm Ernst & Young, said late Tuesday that his experience had led him ?to believe that an inclusive environment? was ?important throughout our society.?

?I support the meaningful work of the Boy Scouts in preparing young people for adventure, leadership, learning and service, however the membership policy is not one I would personally endorse,? he said in a statement first reported by CNBC. ? ? I intend to continue to work from within the BSA Board to actively encourage dialogue and sustainable progress.?

His comments came after Jennifer Tyrrell, who was ousted from her post as a Tiger Cubs? den leader in April because she is a lesbian, launched an online petition calling for the BSA board members like Turley, who head companies committed to gay rights, to speak out on the issue.

But another CEO and chairman named in the petition, AT&T?s Randall Stephenson, did not go as far as Turley.

?Diversity and inclusion are part of AT&T?s culture and operations, and we?re proud to be recognized as a leader in this area,? he said in a statement to CNBC. ?We don?t agree with every policy of every organization we support, nor would we expect them to agree with us on everything. Our belief is that change at any organization must come from within to be successful and sustainable."

An AT&T spokesman did not immediately respond to a query seeking further comment from Stephenson on the issue. The Boy Scouts, volunteer and professional leadership said in a statement that it "respects the opinions" of its board members.

"While we have some supporters with different viewpoints on this issue, Scouting believes that good people can disagree on this topic and still work together for the common good," read the statement attributed to National President Wayne Perry and Chief Scout Executive Robert Mazzuca.

Last week, the Boy Scouts, a private group, said it was considering a resolution that calls for ending the 102-year-old policy. BSA spokesman Deron Smith said a resolution to allow local groups to set their own standards regarding gay members was turned in by a Scout leader from the Northeast ahead of the organization?s national annual meeting, which took place at the end of May.

?While we?ll carefully consider this resolution, there are no plans to change this policy,? Smith said, noting that resolutions and petitions on the matter were ?not unique? and dated back to 2000, when the Supreme Court heard a challenge on their stance. (The justices sided with the Boy Scouts in the lawsuit involving a former assistant scoutmaster who was gay, citing the protections of the First Amendment).

Ahead of the annual meeting, Zach Wahls, an Eagle Scout son of lesbian mothers, had handed in a petition calling for the reinstatement of Tyrrell and an end to the policy.

He said he has had conversations with people inside the organization and has received an outpouring of support from other Eagle Scouts, with whom he will form a group to work to end the policy. "We're all feeling very positive about where we?re at,? he said last Wednesday.

Tyrrell served as den leader in her Bridgeport, Ohio, community for less than a year before her ouster. The 32-year-old stay-at-home mother of four said she agreed to take the?position on the day she signed up her son, Cruz Burns, for the troop. She had concerns about the Boy Scouts' policy against homosexuals, but a cubmaster said that they wouldn?t have a problem locally.

The heckler caught on tape harassing Bristol Palin at a bar last fall is apparently suing Lifetime for putting the altercation on her new reality show.

She was riding a mechanical bull when Stephen Hanks began heckling Bristol Palin, yelling, "Did you ride Levi like that," "Your mother is a whore," etc.

Palin confronted him, asking if he didn't like Sarah because he is "a homosexual." Things got headed, but afterward, Hanks apologized to Palin.

But now he's suing for defamation, invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and misappropriation of right of publicity.

Bristol Palin Responds to Heckler With Gay Comment

Hanks' attorney, Michael Gulden, says no one ever asked Hanks to sign a release for the footage to be used on Bristol Palin: Life's a Tripp.

The video (above) has been online ever since the altercation and has been viewed nearly a million times. Still, he's seeking damages in court.

"He felt this was the only way he could protect his rights," Gulden says, adding, Hanks was "simply a patron at the bar" where this went down.

Lifetime says it has "no comment" because it is a legal issue.

Moody's downgrades Cyprus on Greek euro exit fears

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) ? Moody's credit ratings agency on Wednesday drove Cyprus deeper into junk status with a two-notch downgrade to Ba3 over an increased likelihood that debt-crushed Greece will leave the eurozone.

Moody's said in a statement that it has placed Cyprus' rating on review for further possible downgrade.

It says that a Greek euro exit would likely raise the amount of money that the government may need to support its heavily Greece-exposed banking sector.

The agency said the two-notch downgrade also reflects the fact that the Cyprus' finances are already strained and that it can't borrow from international markets.

The downgrade comes as an added blow to the eurozone country as it seeks ?1.8 billion ($2.6 billion) to help recapitalize its second-largest lender, Cyprus Popular Bank, which is most heavily exposed to Greek debt.

Cyprus' finance minister suggested on Wednesday that the government could seek a European Union bailout to support the bank before crucial elections in Greece this Sunday which are seen as a vote on whether the country stays or leaves the eurozone. Vassos Shiarly said a loan from another country was also an option.

Greece is holding the June 17 repeat election following an inconclusive May 6 ballot in which voters turned to smaller, mainly anti-bailout groups that have promised to renege on Greece's austerity commitments that were made in exchange for international bailout money.

Moody's said it now believes that Cyprus will need more money to support its banks than its earlier estimate, equivalent to 5-10 percent of the country's gross domestic product. It said recapitalization costs would now increase the country's debt levels by just over 10 percent of GDP.

The agency said these increased risks for Cypriot banks "may lead to much larger recapitalization costs to the government, and Moody's needs to reflect these in the Cypriot sovereign's ratings."

On Tuesday, Moody's downgraded two of Cyprus' top three commercial banks by a notch over the heightened risk that Greece may leave the eurozone.

Moody's said its review of Cyprus will focus mainly on political developments in Greece and how these could heighten the risk for Cypriot banks. It will also take into account Cypriot government plans to seek EU support for its banks and what strings may come attached.

Shiarly said earlier this week that he's optimistic Cyprus won't be forced into enacting harsh austerity measures if it seeks an EU bailout because of its low fiscal deficit and public debt relative to other EU members.

Cyprus has vowed to stick to a 2012 deficit target of 2.5 percent of gross domestic product and is preparing additional spending cuts and tax rises to fix a 1 percent deviation.

More importantly, the country wants to be seen by its EU partners as living up to its promises in the hope of clinching favorable terms on a possible EU bailout, such as protecting its low 10 percent corporate tax ? a key selling point for its large services sector.

Standard & Poor's agency currently rates Cyprus at BB+, a notch below the junk threshold, while Fitch rates the country at BBB, or a notch above junk.

No evidence for 'knots' in space

Theories of the primordial Universe predict the existence of knots in the fabric of space - known as cosmic textures - which could be identified by looking at light from the cosmic microwave background (CMB), the relic radiation left over from the Big Bang.

Using data from NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) satellite, researchers from UCL, Imperial College London and the Perimeter Institute have performed the first search for textures on the full sky, finding no evidence for such knots in space.

As the Universe cooled it underwent a series of phase transitions, analogous to water freezing into ice. Many transitions cannot occur consistently throughout space, giving rise in some theories to imperfections in the structure of the cooling material known as cosmic textures.

If produced in the early Universe, textures would interact with light from the CMB to leave a set of characteristic hot and cold spots. If detected, such signatures would yield invaluable insight into the types of phase transitions that occurred when the Universe was a fraction of a second old, with drastic implications for particle physics.

A previous study, published in Science in 2007, provided a tantalising hint that a CMB feature known as the "Cold Spot" could be due to a cosmic texture. However, the CMB Cold Spot only comprises around 3% of the available sky area, and an analysis using the full microwave sky had not been performed.

The new study, published today in Physical Review Letters, places the best limits available on theories that produce textures, ruling out at 95% confidence theories that produce more than six detectable textures on our sky.

Stephen Feeney, from the UCL Department of Physics and Astronomy and lead author, said: "If textures were observed, they would provide invaluable insight into the way nature works at tremendous energies, shedding light on the unification of the physical forces. The tantalizing hints found in a previous small-scale search meant it was extremely important to carry out this full-sky analysis."

Co-author Matt Johnson, from the Perimeter Institute, Canada, said: "Although there is no evidence for these objects in the WMAP data, this is not the last word: in a few months we will have access to much better data from the Planck satellite. Whether we find textures in the Planck data or further constrain the theories that produce them, only time will tell!"

Don't get it in your head that Sidengo is just a bunch of links, like other landing page builders. Neither currently offer the simplicity of creating a single-page, free personal Website for individuals like our Editors' Choice, Flavors, but if your needs are more complex and business oriented, Sidengo is a good option.

Whilst at Computex, VR-Zone asked various companies the cost differences between building Android slates (which Google offers for free) and Microsoft's latest variant. The anonymous enterprises responded with figures between $80 and $95 -- averaging out at $85. If true, then Metro-powered tablets will cost several hundred dollars more than their Android-running rivals -- which would certainly hamper its entry into the market.

He suggested I start the diet he & his wife Andrea follow, which is a combination of Paleo and One Ingredient Diet. This consists of eating only meats, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. That means cutting out processed foods that are made with many ingredients and chemicals. If you have ever looked at the average food label, then you know there are many things on that list you can not pronounce. I don?t know about you, but if I can?t say it, then that is not something I want to put in my body.

On March 18^th I began my diet/ lifestyle change process. Along with changing my diet I also stopped drinking alcohol & if you know me that was not gonna be easy! Since doing all of this, I have had amazing results! I have lost 20 lbs. and I just feel so much better. Before the change I would sleep an average of 6 hrs. a night and would be tired throughout the day. Now, I no longer have trouble falling or staying asleep and sleep an average of 8 hrs. a night. I now have so much more energy throughout the day.

I?m not perfect and have cheated on my diet a few times. When I have done this I have felt aweful the next day, tired, stomach being off, etc. So when temptations come up I try to remember and remind myself how bad I will feel in the morning. Now when I go grocery shopping I stick mostly to organic foods (because of the chemicals sprayed on non-organic fruits and vegetables) and I always read labels. Changing my diet wasn?t easy and is still challenging at times, but it sure is worth it! Now I look at foods/ drinks I used to love and I am not even tempted because I know the ingredients/ chemicals they put in those products.

This is a change I feel great about and I know I can/ will continue throughout my adult life. I would recommend this diet to anyone whose looking to become healthier, or wanting to get more results for the effort they are putting into their fitness routine!
